I first photographed this family almost 9 years ago, back then there were only 4 grandkids. Man has this beautiful family expanded in the last couple years. I admire them for making it a priority to regularly capture their families growth. Family portraits definitely act as a personal trophy to remind us to celebrate all we have accomplished through out the years. Raising kids is a tough job and the payoff isn't until each grandchild is born and you get to watch your own children put into practice all you tried to teach them when they were little. I admire this grandma and grandpa because not only did they fulfill their parental duties, they did so well that each one of their kids is an amazing asset to society. That kind of parenting definitely needs an award, and it comes in the form of a family portrait. I have the amazing opportunity to witness what kind and thoughful children these parents have raised. I have been worrying a lot about whether or not I am being the best mother I can to my small children. I can't wait for the day when I can know that all my daily mistakes in parenting didn't end up sending my kids to the funny farm. But I am sure that when your kids are grown and you actually have a moment to breath and think you did all right as a parent... grandkids come along and rip your heart out again for you to wear on your sleeve.
My wish for Grandma and Grandpa is to sit back and enjoy the trophy that is your family portrait. You earned it! I can't remember how many years of marriage you told me you have accomplished but you sure have a lot of people to surround yourself with and celebrate. Thank you for letting me be a part of your celebration of family. As a photographer you are beautiful people to capture, but as a mother I feel fortunate to get to witness such wonderful parenting... I hope to take a little home with me.
