I don't know what delusions I was having about a quiet January, but the month is almost gone and I am still running at warp speed. Last week I returned from the annual Professional Photographers of America convention which was held down in San Antonio, Texas this year. Looking forward to this trip is what makes me hold on tight during the holidays. This is my recharge, I come home with perspective and goals for the upcoming year. I have to emphasize that this year trip was extra special for several reasons.
It just so happens that one of my very best- most wonderful clients current lives in San Antonio. It also just happened that she was due with her 4th baby at the exact time I was going to be in her city. I have photographed all her babies within weeks of birth and they are some of my most favorite sessions of all time. We had been trying to coordinate the doctor schedule, my flights, and the actual birth of the baby so I could photograph this the little guy while in town. Miracle of all miracles, the baby decided to make his arrival 5 days before his scheduled induction. The timing couldn't have been more perfect! During my free Saturday afternoon I got to spend some major quality time with baby L and his family. I even beat grandma into town, who arrived in the middle of our session. Let me introduce Mr. L at 4 days old...
I have to admit that the one image I was nervous about doing was all the siblings together..... but we had another miracle!
Holy Cow! Look at the peepers on that newborn. I have never met such a focused and aware newborn. Once this little cutie woke up he just looked right at me and instantly dazzled me with his smolder.
Honestly, it was such a priviledge to meet this little guy. Thank you so much W family for your warm hospitality and your bag full of pretzle chips. I will always know that I was part of a miracle, because your new little one is nothing shy of a perfect miracle. Thank you, thank you, thank you for being such a wonderful part of my life C&R. I can't wait for you to move home!
Please leave this miracle family a comment so they can earn their mini accordion album. I know they have friends and family everywhere that are so excited to meet the newest addition. Leave them a note of congrats, they only need 12.
As if a newborn wasn't enough, the convention hadn't even started yet. Another reason this trip was so special was because I got to present my dear friend Kris with her Master's Degree. I was so honored to be a part of this wonderful night. Kris had an absolute banner year and I was so proud to be standing next to her and so lucky to place the gold Masters ribbon around her neck. We have been such integrall parts of each other's photographic quest.... I couldn't have been more psyched.
The awards ceremony is a black tie affair... I don't get too many opportunities to attend such fancy events.
There was quite a Utah showing for Awards this year. This is our girl power portrait... this group has some serious photographic talent in it!
My girls! The three Amigos! The biggest reason I look forward to this trip is to spend some quality time with these two. I was also lucky enough to participate in the Grand Imaging Awards as a recipient of the "Photographer of the Year" award. I have earned this award before but it was a lot nicer presentation this year.
I big shout out to everyone I got to spend quality time with down in Texas. I miss you already! I have already marked the calendar for 2012, hope you are all planning on coming too... I've never been to New Orleans.
